Mahapothana IT Lab Upgrade

Mahapothana Dutuwewa Vidyalaya | Kapugollewa Anuradhapura

Project Description

At Mahapothana Dutuwewa Vidyalaya in Kapugollewa, Anuradhapura, the IT lab was upgraded to provide a more functional and accessible space for students. The layout was reorganised and equipment updated to support hands-on learning and everyday use.

The renovation improves access to technology and helps students build practical skills that matter in school and beyond. Teachers now have a space that supports lessons more effectively and encourages collaboration.

The upgrade was carried out in close coordination with the school. Teams from SITS and the Infinity Foundation worked directly on the setup to ensure it is durable and practical for daily use.

The lab now serves as a reliable space for learning, reflecting our ongoing commitment through the Infinity Foundation to support education and provide resources that make a difference in the community.

Why This Project Matters

The primary objective is to narrow the digital divide in rural communities. Specifically, this project aimed to transform the existing facility into a functional, inspiring environment that facilitates hands-on learning, strengthens digital literacy, and equips students with essential technological skills for their future academic and professional careers.

The direct beneficiaries are the students and teaching staff of Sri Seelananda Maha Vidyalaya, Bulathkohupitiya.

  • Students: Gain access to modern equipment and a safe space for technological exploration.

  • Teachers: Benefit from improved infrastructure and tools that allow for more effective and engaging lesson delivery.

  • The Local Community: Indirectly benefits as the school becomes a hub for innovation and growth in a rural area.

Long-term impact is achieved through sustainable infrastructure and skill-building. By reorganizing the lab layout for optimal use and providing durable equipment, the project ensures the facility remains functional for years. Furthermore, by focusing on “skills that serve students beyond school,” the project creates a lasting ripple effect, preparing the next generation for a digital economy.

Support can be provided through collaborative partnerships and resource allocation. Organizations like SITS and the Infinity Foundation demonstrate this by contributing technical expertise, equipment, and labor. Others can support by:

  • Funding future maintenance or software updates.

  • Volunteering technical training for teachers and students.

  • Donating additional modern hardware to expand the lab’s capacity.

Accountability is maintained through a collaborative, needs-based approach. The project was not implemented in isolation; the team worked closely with the school administration to understand specific requirements and optimize the layout accordingly. By involving multiple stakeholders (SITS, Infinity Foundation, and the School), the project ensures that resources are used effectively and that the improvements meet the actual needs of the community.
